The Calvary Presbyterian Women of Faith (CPCWOF) Story
Background. A few years ago, Sis. Selet Purificacion, the CPC Women of Faith Coordinator at the time, approached Sis. Norma Barner to ask her if she could help revive this women’s group. At the time, she (Sis. Norma) was just a guest speaker and was still actively involved with another church as its Ladies Ministries Program Coordinator. However, she did promise her (Sis. Selet) that she was willing to do what she could. Despite the years that followed, she had not forgotten Sis. Selet’s request. She asked the Lord that if it was His will to help us.
Purpose. Sometime in August 2004, when she was asked to handle the Arts & Crafts Sunday School (later on changed to CPC Women of Faith Sunday School), Sis. Norma mentioned to the women that attended the said class that she thought we needed to revive the CPC Women of Faith Ministries. Among the reasons she gave were the following:
1. The Bible teaches that it is the responsibility of older women to serve the Lord as role models and mentors of the generations following us.
2. Because we have needs that only our fellow women could understand.
3. There are issues that affect women only and should be discussed among women only.
4. Women have been given gifts by the Lord and having a Women’s Ministries Program will enable them to exercise these gifts.
5. There are things that women can do to support the church and the Lord’s work.
Some ladies gave other reasons such as, we need to have bonding as Christian women. We decided to pray about it and ask for the Lord’s leading.
Biblical Basis. The Bible, especially the New Testament, records the different ministries performed by the women. In Acts alone, 33 women are specifically named to be active in the early church. To name a few, there are Priscilla, Lydia, Dorcas, Phoebe, Philip’s four daughters who were prophetesses (Acts 21:8-9); Eudia, Synteche (Philippians 4:2-3); and many others. We see them in the upper room devotedly praying with the disciples (Acts 1:13-14). We see them hosting the early church meetings; teaching; and assisting in Paul’s ministry as a fellow worker (Romans 16). Some are called disciples, like Tabitha (or Dorcas), who was a helper of widows and the poor and someone who used her homemaking skills in serving the Lord.
Our Objectives. On September 12, 2004, we believed that it was time for the Calvary Presbyterian Church Women of Faith Ministries to be formally organized. To keep us on track and provide us direction, the following objectives were established:
1. To minister to the needs of the women in our church. 2. To encourage women to pursue spiritual maturity. 3. To foster fellowship among women. 4. To promote outreach through missions and evangelism. 5. To help equip women to serve others in the church. 6. To support the church in its ministries through the various spiritual gifts and talents the Lord gave us. 7. To provide opportunities for ministry to the community and to other places, such as Mexico and the Philippines.
The First Set of Officers. To accomplish these objectives, we believe we needed leaders so we held an election, and the following ladies were elected:
WINNIE BARTOLOME - President IRENE RAMOS - Vice-President MARIE SAPRID - Secretary JULIE PAREDES - Treasurer ANNIE JAMIR - Public Relations Officer TERESITA SAPITAN - Public Relations Officer JULIE VASQUEZ - Public Relations Officer SELET PURIFICATION - Special Event Coordinator
The following ladies will serve as advisers until further notice: ARLENE AMOROZO, ELSIE BAUTISTA, JANE GALAZO, and NORMA BARNER.
Rev. Emmanuel G. Orendain, pastor of Calvary Presbyterian Church installed the officers and advisers in January 2005.
The Sunday School teachers were Annabelle Lara and Norma Barner.

Our Theme Verse: Titus 2:3-5 (NASB-U)
"Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, [4] so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, [5] to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored."

Awesome...CPC-WOF... Praise God! / Pastor Eman Orendain (#1 fan )
It is just divine. This may be one of the reasons why the word "divine" is usually given to women.
I dedicate this poem to all my Girlfriends in Christ!
When you feel discouraged and sad And need someone to make you glad All you need to do is tell me And I’ll be there in a hurry! I am no clown but I will try To make you smile instead of sigh I’ll be with you in peace or war Isn’t that what friends are for?
When you want someone in your den Just to be there and just listen All you need to do is tell me And I’ll be there in a hurry! I love to talk but I will try To be quiet and not to pry I will be in attention full Isn’t that what friends are for?
When it seems that no one loves you And need one say it isn’t true All you need to do is tell me And I’ll be there in a hurry! I am no lover but I will try To make you feel loved and not cry For you can open my heart’s door Isn’t that what friends are for?
When you need one to lend a hand When you feel you’re in sinking sand All you need to do is tell me And I’ll be there in a hurry! I’m not perfect but I will try To pull you out so you don’t die For I love you with heart and soul Isn’t that what friends are for?

REMEMBER YOUR SISTERS
I don't know who the original author of this story forwarded to me by Tereh is, but I thought I'd copy it here as it is meant to be read by all women. And what it says is very true, so, women, take note, and don't forget to...REMEMBER YOUR SISTERS!
A young wife sat on a sofa on a hot humid day, drinking iced tea and visiting with her mother. As they talked about life, marriage, the responsibilities of life, and the obligations of adulthood, the mother clinked the ice cubes in her glass thoughtfully and turned a clear, sober glance upon her daughter.
"Don't forget your sisters," she advised, swirling the tea leaves to the bottom of her glass. "They'll be more important as you get older. No matter how much you love your husband, no matter how much you love the children you may have, you are still going to need sisters.
"Remember to go places with them now and then. Do things with them. Remember that 'sisters' means ALL the women...your girlfriends, your daughters, and all your other women relatives, too.
"You'll need other women. Women always do."
What a funny piece of advice! the young woman thought. Haven't I just gotten married? Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a married woman, for goodness sake! A grownup! Surely my husband and the family we may start will be all I need to make my life worthwhile!
But she listened to her mother. She kept contact with her sisters and made more women friends each year. As the years tumbled by one after another, she gradually came to understand that her mom really knew what she was talking about. As time and nature work their changes and their mysteries upon a woman, Ssisters are the mainstays of her life.
After more than 50 years of living in this world, here is what she learned:
Time passes. Life happens. Distance separates. Children grow up. Jobs come and go. Love waxes and wanes. Men don't do what they're supposed to do. Hearts break. Parents die. Colleagues forget favors. Careers end. BUT......... Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you. A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end.
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you. Or come in and carry you out.
Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, mothers, grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended family, all bless our life! The world wouldn't be the same without women, and neither would I.
When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other. Every day, we need each other still. (Author unknown)

God be praised for that!
To all CPC Women of Faith, congratulations on your faithfulness to the Lord! May you all continue to love Him devotedly! God bless you and everyone you love!
